Blazing Swan is a landscape of awe – a place of vibrant art and deep connection. To feel truly free to express our inner selves, we must be able to trust one another.  At a Burn, the lived experience always comes before the image. We view photography as a twofold gift – by the photograper who gives freely gives their art and skill, and by the event participants who generously share images of themselves and their creations.  Remember, we will always respect a participant’s right to decline this gift.

Our Values in Focus

1  Consent is Sacred

Radical Self-Expression only works when we feel safe.

  • Ask first: Seek clear consent before you shoot.  If someone is unresponsive, unsure or in a compromising position – do not record.
  • The “Delete” Rule:  If anyone (including people in the background) asks you to delete a photo, you must do so immediately.
  • Minors: Express permission from a parent or guardian is mandatory for anyone under 18.
  • Help the Artists: If you see a registered photographer (with an ID lanyard) trying to get consent from a group, lend them a hand! Helping secure consent is a great way to participate.

2  Decommodification

Blazing Swan is a space free from the influence of commerce.

  • Personal Use Only: Media may be used for your artistic folio, but it may not be sold or used to promote a product, service, or brand.
  • No Paid Work:  We do not have paid photographers or models, we are all participants.
  • Restricted Tech: Drones and camera-glasses are prohibited without explicit, prior approval from organizers.

3  Immediacy & Submissions

We value the “Now.” We encourage you to put the phone away and enjoy the dust.

  • Photo Submissions: If you capture an amazing moment (with consent!), we’d love to see it.  Email your photos to photography@blazingswan.com.au.
  • Right of Use:  By capturing media at Blaze, you grant the organization the right to use it for promotional purposes.  We will credit the photographers wherever possible.

Film, Video & Other recordings

Prefer shooting video? A documentary, short film or short form video? All our guidelines apply no matter what kind of media you are recording at Blaze. We encourage you to register as a community photographer to have the most seamless experience at Blaze. The Comms Team can assist you with shooting guidelines and identifying participants. We encourage filmakers to provide a draft to the Comms Team before publishing to ensure consent.
